So hey. As many of you may know already, I consider myself a socialist, and believe that a socialist form of government is best. Before you all get worked up and shouting things you may or may not mean, let me explain myself. After that you can judge as much as you want.
Originally I was a Democrat. Plain and simple. But as I started to grow older, I often found myself thinking that a more liberal approach needed to be taken in the fate of this country, and I started becoming more and more obsessed with great thinkers, especially John Lennon. I took a stance for peace and acceptance. Slowly I realized that there was lots of corruption around me, even in my then political party. I took up the Peace and Freedom Party for a bit, then realized that all of my thoughts and ideas matched with the Socialist Party's ethos.
Socialism, to quote Wikipedia, is "an economic and political theory advocating public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources." I believe fully in this. Large corporations, and businesses, should be owned by the workers, where each one has an equal say in major decisions. I also think that the country, and the world in general, would be a better place if we spread wealth and goods equally among all people. If this means taxing the rich and helping the poor, then so be it. Another point that I like about socialism is the fact that government-regulated industries would be run much more efficiently. These industries would include education, health-care, and public transportation, though other services could be also run. These services would be paid with taxes.
I also strongly believe in an atheist state. I am not saying that each and every person should be void of spirituality, but I am saying that the government should be. Religion and a free government are not two things that go together. And though the government would be without religion, I think every person has the right to decide their own religion and that the government has no power to stop or oppose religion practiced by civilians.
The last thing that I believe in is green power and energy. Fossil fuels will and are destroying the ozone layer and endangering every person on Earth's well-being. I believe in wind energy, wave-generated power, and solar power as the most promising sources of energy for the time-being, until even more efficient sources are developed. I believe that the government should support bicycle and pedestrian safety, and should further develop and encourage these forms of transportation, as well as light rail and other locomotive-based forms of transportation that do not use fossil fuels. I think public transportation is vital to a green society.
